The way that people do business and interact with each other changes every 40 years. Think about it. In 1923 flappers were the rage. The affluent were partying hard and having a ball, while the poor fended for themselves. In 1929 the stock market crashed, sending some of those who had lost their fortunes, jumping off buildings. President Roosevelt, in an effort to get the nation back on track ushered in a cooperative form of leadership, and instituted programs such as Social Security, CCC camps, etc. This cooperative era went on until slightly after the 2nd World War.
In 1953 we started seeing inklings of a switchover with Rebel Without a Cause, beatniks, etc. President Kennedy was shot in 1963. People started to grumble and rebel more openly on various issues that had to do with the Vietnam war, race relations and sexual equality. 1969 (40 years after the stock market crashed) the age of idealism was in full throttle with hippies, flower children, draft dodgers and free love.
Idealism continued up until about 2003 when real estate was at it’s most expensive, and the market was thriving. Unfortunately, greed and corruption raised it’s ugly head again, and the housing market crashed in approx 2009. Do you see a pattern here?
We are back into a cooperative mode. People who were once fairly affluent, are facing foreclosure, bankruptcy, homelessness. People are rallying around to help.
As business owners, it is important to help each other and work like a team to get the world back on track. No longer is it acceptable to be in all about me mode. In order for our economy to flourish again, we need to support entrepreneurs.
As business networkers, we are doing business with those we have an authentic relationship with. Do you have a close personal relationship with a corporate box store? Probably not. So, why shop there instead of the small business who has been in your neighborhood for many years and now is in danger of closing? We are seeing more home business owners shopping with each other and creating a community of cooperation.
Hype in advertising, such as long sales pages, with a gigantic price tag on the other end are being quickly deleted. More business is done on Facebook than practically anywhere else, because people want to know and trust who they are purchasing from more intimately.
Prosperity abounds when partnerships and strategic alliances are formed. Help each other and you will receive abundance back in droves.
